Creator Todd McFarlane has officially begun writing a new Spawn film. The first live-action adaptation of his popular series came in 1997 to very little praise.

"I've officially begun writing the SPAWN MOVIE screenplay, The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. Will continue to update" he posted on Twitter August 22, 2009. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a stand alone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary," adding, "the tone of this SPAWN movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film DEPARTED."

If the film turns out anything like the animated 1997 animated TV series, I'd be very happy.  As it is, I'd be happy with anything better than the first film.
