Samantha Tumpach, 22, was arrested at a Chicago movie theater for allegedly videotaping portions of the movie during a screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, with her digital camera. Apparently, she wasn't very familiar with her new camera and after snapping a few pics of her sister at the screening couldn't figure out how to turn it off. A manager seeing her with the camera, contacted police. She managed to grab 4 minutes of footage which consisted of some commercials and a conversation with her sister without actually getting any footage from the film.
The story brings up a few questions.
1. How long did it take for the police to arrive?
2. How did the girl manage to switch her camera to video, and press record but didn't know how to turn it off?
3. Did she only get 4 minutes of footage because she was stopped by police, because she figured out how to turn it off, or because of limitations of the camera itself (batteries, storage)
4. What does the footage look like? Is she pointing it at the screen like she's taping it, or is it in her lap pointing in a random direction?
Samantha was arrested, charged with a felony, and spent two days in jail. She now faces a substantial fine or up to three years in prison. Miss Tumpach insists she did not intend to film the movie and depending on the answers to the above questions, that could very well be the case (though if she runs any kind of online blog etc. it might be suspect). Chris Weitz, director of New Moon, heard about the case and has contacted the studio, asking if they can help her. That's nice of him. This story was originally found at Tribute.ca
