Seem's the Weinstein's are at it again. LA Times are reporting that the Weintein Co.'s has moved the release date of Piranha 3-D from April 16 to sometime in August at the earliest.

Weinstein Co. said it was relocating Piranha 3-D, so that it wasn't competing Lionsgate's movie Kick-Ass, which also opens that weekend and may appeal to the same young demographics.

David Glaser, a senior Weinstein Co. executive, stated that there were no financial motivations behind the decision to move Piranha 3-D but if you ask me, not wanting to compete with another film is exactly what I'd call a "financial motivation."

If we take a look at what is currently scheduled for release in August 2010, the film really only has a few dates available. August 6th has Sept-Up 3-D which not only might appeal to a similar audience but would compete for digital screens. August 13th has The Expendables which would surely compete for dollars from the target demographic. August 20th sees the release of Priest which might very well be something they'd want to avoid going up against. This leaves them with August 27th or September 3rd as right after that Resident Evil: Afterlife is scheduled to hit the big screen and I'm pretty sure they don't want to get tangled up with that film.

So pen in your calendars for August 27th to go see Piranha 3-D, I'm sure it will be a blast.
