STYD is reporting that Resident Evil is no longer going to be released in January 2011. It was rumoured that the film was pushed back in order to give the Director more time in order to release the film in 3D.

Of course, opening the film in January 2011 would have put the film up against MGM's 3D horror flick Cabin in the Woods from Joss Whedon. If there's one thing studios know it's that you don't want to put one genre film up against another unless it's near Hallowe'en AND especially so if both films are needing to be shown on the limited amount of digital 3D screens available.

So it isn't surprising to hear that the release date of one of these two films has changed. What is surprising is to hear that not only is Resident Evil not going to be pushed back to 2011, it's actually being pushed forward to September 10th from it's original September 24th release date.

I guess Anderson didn't need the extra time after all.
