UK's The Guardian is reporting that NBC Universal and its UK subsidiary Working Title are looking to bring some of their movie properties to television. NBC Universal International and Working Title announced they were moving into TV production territory with a new joint venture called Working Title Television.
One of the goals is to make TV adaptations of Working Title's library of more than 90 theatrical releases which includes the Bridget Jones films, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Shaun of the Dead.
Simon Pegg has since tweeted "Contrary to reports there are no plans for a Shaun Of The Dead TV show. Thought you'd like to know." which I read as "As far as I know, there are no plans for a television series based on Shaun of the Dead, but that doesn't mean there wont be one."
Another goal is to create international versions of shows in the same vain as how Law & Order has spawned similar shows including Law & Order UK. This should create more interest in each specific market while removing the cost of having to write different episodes for each international show.
They are also thinking about dipping into the vast NBC vault as there are several shows that have proven popular with British viewers including Columbo and Murder, She Wrote. As such, we could see remakes of these shows in the near future.
One thing is certain, nothing is set in stone but I'd love to see some of these potential projects come to life.
