I think it would be safe to say that we've all known it would happen sooner or later.  Mantic Games which has been producing some fantastic miniatures (for collectors, modellers and gaming) has announced that they will be releasing an actual game system for Kings of War come October 2010. Ronnie Renton from Mantic Games sat down with Warren of Beasts of War to announce this fantastic news.

Alessio Cavatore, who wrote the rules for Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k...

After a few delays, the lineup for the 2010 Toronto After Dark Film Festival has officially been announced. Though I've already seen a few of the films I can honestly say, I'm extremely pleased with the selection this year.  Though it is a little heavy on the horror side (it usually is) and there are several films with a similar feel/subject matter, I can't say I'm displeased with any of the choices.

So without wasting anymore time, here is the schedule for this years festival. Note that each film links to the Toronto After Dark website where you can get more information,...

The second annual Shinsedai Cinema Festival has come and gone with much success. This year I actually decided to help out by volunteering and I'm very glad I did. I managed to meet some fantastic people and still catch a few films from the diverse lineup available.

One of the wonderful things about Shinsedai is that, though you may not enjoy every film playing, there is a very very good chance there will be something there that meets your tastes. Not a genre festival by any means, it tries to bring new or hardly known quality Japanese films (often independent) to Toronto, Ontario...

News coming out of Comic-con is that Brad Pitt will star in World War Z, an adaptation of Max Brooks' cult horror novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. Brooks confirmed the news to MTV live. Though Pitt had been rumoured to play the lead, it hadn't been confirmed until now.

Director Marc Forester (Quantum of Solace) is set to direct based on a script by J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5 creator and writer of many things awesome) and little known Matthew Michael Carnahan.

The author also revealed that Pitt's production company Plan B, which is producing the...

"Gunman Champion" star Shaq, not Shaquille O'Neil the basketball player, will be joining in on the festivities that are the Shinsedai Cinema Festival 2010.

Comedian, actor and singer Shaq, star of sugarmountain's "Gunman Champion" (screening with Katsuya Tomita's "Off Highway 20" on Saturday, July 24th at 3:45PM), will be a special guest at this years festival. How he will be involved is anybody's guess. Could he be singing? Perhaps doing some standup? Or a combination of both during a Q&A? Anything is possible at these kinds of events and the only way to find out is to be there...

This being my first time going to the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I would be making this trip with the good Mr. John Allison from the website RowThree.com who was making the trip out to Fantasia from Saskatoon (a city in Saskatchewan Canada, look it up) via a short stay in Toronto. Knowing we'd be arriving later in the evening on Thursday (opening night of the festival), I decided to play it safe and not purchase tickets to any of the opening night films. The opener was the big budget film...

The Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal Quebec is back yet again for another year with a large selection of genre films most people will never get to see anywhere else. I've been debating whether to give you the full list of films, a partial list with a link, or just pick out some that stick out to me and link to the rest. In the end... I've decided go big or go home.

Well considering the time, I'm going home.  But have no fear!  You can check out all the films here. And...

The Sitges Film Festival has announced it's opening film for 2010! If you don't know what Sitges is, I think it would be safe to say that you could consider it the largest and most important genre event in Europe!

Opening the festival on October 7th will be the Guillermo Del Toro produced Julia's Eyes directed by Guillem Morales. Los ojos de Julia is the terrifying odyssey of a woman (Belén Rueda) suffering from a degenerative eye disease who is obsessed with finding out the truth behind her twin sister’s death.

As well, Let Me In directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield anyone...

Though the Zombie Walk is about 4 months away (October 23, 2010), there are still a lot of things that need to get done. Unlike previous years, the organizers of the event are asking that everyone who plans on attending this year register via their website. This not only allows them to have a better idea of numbers (numbers directly affect costs after all) but if you register you'll get your very own toe tag. Each toe tag will have numbers and be eligible for special prize draws! The toe tag is also necessary to receive the zombie discount at the Bloor Theatre for the after walk special...

Cousins Mark and Brian Gunn have been hired to pen Paramount's remake of "The Monster Squad." Rob Cohen, who produced the original film, will produce and direct this new version. Producing the film will be Rob Cohen, Michael Bay (expect explosions), Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

If you don't know the original film, please go out and rent/buy it before this one comes out.  It is one of my favourite childhood films and though I don't think it needs an update, and I'm sure the re-make will be filled with icky CGI, I'll be out there to see the new verion opening weekend...
