Those who know me are often very surprised when they hear that I’ve never attended TIFF. And I’m not talking a week full of movies. I haven’t seen a single screening… ever. I guess they figure 300+ movies a year just aren’t enough. Truth is, I hadn’t started attending any film festivals until about 5 years ago and up until that point the only film festival I “wanted” to attend was Fantasia in Montreal (which I still haven’t been to).

TIFF has never been really accessible to me. The idea of spending a ton of money on films you know hardly anything about wasn’t within my budget....

It's no laughing matter and I'll not go into a bunch of funny one liners and puns though we all know the potential is here. On May 28th, 2010, Gary Coleman passed away from a brain hemorrhage after falling, hitting his head, and suffering an epidural hematoma.

Though not known for his genre works, he did grace us with his presence in such things as The Curse of Monkey Island as well as episodes of Homeboys in Outer Space, Amazing Stories and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. But Gary will always be known for his...

The 2nd annual Shinsedai Cinema Festival, the New Generation Japanese Film Festival, taking place at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre between July 22nd and July 25th, 2010 has announced the first round of films.

Film Historian, author and Midnight Eye co-founder Jasper Sharp and Toronto J-Film Pow-Wow creator Chris MaGee are still putting together the final list of films for this year's festival but they've been kind enough to let the cat out of the bag on the first batch they've selected.

Some of you may already know that I'm a sucker for cool bottles and love finding horror/scifi/fantasy styled regular products whether they be perfumes, cutlery, furniture or in this case, alcohol. If you didn't already know, Dan Aykroyd has released a vodka called Crystal Head Vodka. The cool thing about this vodka is that the bottle is a clear "skull" shape and looks absolutely awesome.

I've been planning to get this awesome bottle of vodka from the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) ever since I first heard about it. Well it seems that my plans may have found a...

I have yet to confirm it but many websites (including the National Post) are reporting that legendary fantasy illustrator Frank Frazetta has passed away today due to a stroke.

Probably best known for his work on Conan the Barbarian and Tarzan, Frazetta had a unique style that depicted muscular men and scantily clad women fighting ferocious monsters which has become a mainstay in the fantasy and scifi genres ever since.

There's a rumour going around the net right now that Spielberg's classic shark movie, Jaws, may be getting remade and of course, in 3D. I can see the film being remade (though I wish it wouldn't) and we've already had a 3D shark movie but this is the kind of rumour that even if it had no credible source, you could easily believe.

The news originally broke over at Cinemablend from an unamed source. I'm all for a new shark movie. I'm also cool with it being...
