It's not every day that a local film festival gets a world theatrical premiere. This year the Toronto After Dark Film Festival went from local genre festival to international film gala as they not only scored a World Premiere but a film that's a breath of fresh air in a subgenre populated by been there...

ABC News is reporting on a boy who every day, cries tears of blood.  Sometimes it happens three times a day and goes on for up to an hour.  This is more than a Virgin Mary statue crying blood story as it actually has the medical community stumped.

At the young age of 15, Calvino Inman from Tennessee, should be worrying about acne, school or girls. Instead, he's dealing with a bizarre medical condition which has his friends calling him "possessed".

Blomberg.com is reporting that Disney is very close to buying up Marvel. Though the transaction hasn't taken place quite yet, Marvel investors will receive $30 a share plus 0.745 share of Disney stock. This would be the second largest deal for Disney Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger who aquired Pixar for $8.06 billion in 2006. The companies expect the transaction to close this year.

This is some pretty big news.  Are we going to see Donald Duck Vs. Howard the Duck? ...

March 24, 2009 marked the official launch of Frozen Blood originally released in December 2008. I was able to meet up with Joel Sutherland the books author at the event in Ajax, Ontario and get a little interview.

This marks your first published novel. Where else might people have read your work?
I’ve had many short stories published in various anthologies and magazines, but unless you had a story in the same publication or are a hard core Joel Sutherland fan, it’s unlikely you’ve had the opportunity to read them. I do have a story or two available for...

The Revenant
Directed by: Kerry Prior
USA, 110 min

Cast:  David Anders, Cathy Shim, Louise Griffiths, Clint Jung, Chris Wylde
Toronto Theatrical Premiere

Marking the second film of the zombie appreciation night at TAD comes The Revenant, a film which is actually about vampires and not a zombie flick at all. So I guess technically, TAD was having an "undead" appreciation night. As a special bonus, Director Kerry Prior was in attendance to not only introduce the film but for a Q&A afterwards...

Welcome to my first post on NorthernFrights.com.  I'll be one of your regular writers here and hope you enjoy what it is I have to say.  But on to the article at hand.

Awhile back Northern Frights posted an article on how Robert Downey Jr. was in talks to play the role of Lestat in a new movie based on Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.  You can read it here.

I took that article and posted it on the website...

Død snø (Dead Snow) caters to fans of films like Evil Dead and Bad Taste. It knows what its audience wants and it delivers it in spades. It truly is a crowd pleaser. Much like a summer blockbuster, Dead Snow delivers the thrills but lacks the depth and sustenance of a well...

As you know, Universal Pictures is making a big screen adaptation of the videogame Bioshock. Up until this point, Gore Verbinski had been slated for the director’s chair. He had stepped down from directing the fourth Pirates of the Carribbean film to take on the Bioshock project.

With the budget of the Bioshock movie passing 160 million with no apparent stop, Universal shut down production.  The project is looking to shoot outside of the United States and possibly rework the...

Catherine Hardwicke seems to be collecting projects at an enormous rate. Variety is reporting that Hardwicke is signing on to Appian Way's The Girl With the Red Riding Hood. This werewolf movie, written by David Johnson, will be a gothic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story. The big difference comes with the fact that it centers around a teenage love triangle.

Obviously they're trying to hit the "Twilight" market here but I don't remember any sort of...

Creator Todd McFarlane has officially begun writing a new Spawn film. The first live-action adaptation of his popular series came in 1997 to very little praise.

"I've officially begun writing the SPAWN MOVIE screenplay, The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. Will continue to update" he posted on Twitter August 22, 2009. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a stand alone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary,"...
